@amberdambey @skydotbit I'm also not a fan of some design decisions on Mastodon. Primarily, I don't like how it stores original files.
Iceshrimp converts the files into AVIF format locally and WebP for external federation. Which, I feel is much more ideal. I also have it set to resize them.
Saves on storage space and bandwidth, which Mastodon really should be doing by default.
For a small instance, this doesn't matter much. But if my small instance ever grows, it could matter a great deal.
@amberdambey @skydotbit I keep debating going to Mastodon for my software, but then I instantly cringe at how bad its UI is. And sure, I can use pi-fe or whatever its called, but it's not the same.
Also, iceshrimp is pretty fun.
This little instance looks like its here for the long haul.
Also Gentoo isn't that scary. You can enable binary packages instead of compiling from source. No more 12-24 hour installs!

@skydotbit But yeah I may do a mastodon instance. I really hate the GUI mastodon has but it is a complete solution and has email alerts.
