@skydotbit As long as you aren't using a firehose relay and you have media set to automatically delete after x days, you're probably fine with 1TB storage.

If you -are- using a firehose relay (completely unfiltered fediverse) then you are going to want significantly more storage.

I actually recommend hard drives for media content on the fediverse, because you'll tear through the TBW cycles on SSDs fairly quickly depending on how much content you're ingesting monthly. That, and I'm not sure if the SSD you linked to has DRAM cache, which means it may be slower then a hard drive if it's heavily used.

On the other hand, you may just be fine with the SSD... so ignore my ramblings.

@skydotbit Surprisingly enough my 18TB HDD is twice as expensive as it was when I bought it two years ago..

...so probably worth a lot still.

@skydotbit Well good luck!

Are you using raid, or are you just expanding the volume with something like LVM?

Either way, hope it goes well. Fingers crossed.

@jimmylittle To be fair, I very rarely donate to anything. I don't have a ton of money just sitting around to spend, and I'm sure a lot of people are in the same boat.

Most of my money goes on my projects, such as this fediverse instance.

But I understand the frustration on where you're coming from. If you had that many readers then statistically you should have had way more then 4 donators over the years.

@Nisaa I try to avoid drama as much as possible, especially when it comes to books.

That being said, yes, the situation with the author of those books has made me want to get rid of them.

Plumbing woes @Mrfunkedude Maybe something died in there.

I'm serious. Maybe you have a dead rat or something somewhere down the pipe that got stuck.

Or it could be tree roots, but that would really suck.

@tokyo_0 Anything you put in the fediverse should be considered permanent, tbh.

@tokyo_0 That's because it's not a problem to be solved.

The source server is the only server with the key pairs needed to start an automated deletion. Without those keys, the only way to remove content is if the admin of the other server removes it for you manually.

tl;dr your issue is that your source server had data loss. You can't fix this magically, unfortunately. And with how the fediverse operates, you can't "fix" it at all.

Hope that helps explain things! These are all questions for your server owner.
